  • What We're Looking For Role Readiness and Scope At this level, the Supplier Quality Engineer is expected to enter the role with the foundational skills and prior experience necessary to independently execute core supplier quality responsibilities.

  • Prior Experience Required for Day‑1 Effectiveness Individuals at this level typically bring prior experience that includes: Ownership of supplier qualification or onboarding activities, including audits, process reviews, and sample approvals Execution of supplier issue resolution, including containment, root cause analysis, and corrective action closure Support of manufacturing ramps or sustaining quality in production environments Participation in supplier change management activities such as PCNs, deviations, or re‑qualification efforts Cross‑functional collaboration with manufacturing, engineering, and operations teams to address quality risks Autonomy Executes assigned work independently within established processes and guidelines Requires limited oversight for standard supplier quality activities Appropriately escalates risks that exceed defined scope or authority The next level demonstrates proactive ownership, defines strategy, and operates with minimal direction across broader scope Management Responsibility Individual contributor role with no formal people management responsibility May provide informal guidance or mentoring to junior engineers or technicians The next level may include formal people leadership, supplier portfolio ownership, or program‑level leadership responsibilities Technical Aptitude and Tools Working proficiency in quality tools and methods, including SPC, yield analysis, Pareto analysis, 5‑Why, Fishbone, and 8D/CAPA Ability to review and interpret control plans, inspection plans, and basic process capability data Familiarity with quality systems, supplier audits, and traceability requirements The next level demonstrates deeper technical expertise, anticipates failure modes, and shapes quality strategy and standards Communication and Influence Communicates effectively with suppliers and internal manufacturing and engineering teams Presents data‑driven findings, risks, and recommendations in operational forums Participates in cross‑functional reviews as a subject‑matter contributor The next level consistently influences decisions, presents to senior stakeholders, and is regularly involved in program‑level decision‑making forums Level Differentiation Summary This level is characterized by solid execution, independence in core responsibilities, and effective collaboration.
