About This Role

  • More specific duties include the following: Product design starting at sensor physics (requiring technical deep-dives) and integrating optical / mechanical design with application firmware.
  • System Engineering for sensor applications with an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on (but not limited to) optical Time-of-Flight / LiDAR systems, spectrometers and new detector technologies for industrial optical sensing and communication systems.
  • Modeling of sensor physics including active and passive optical properties, as well as suitable signal processing algorithms.
  • Defining System specifications based on customer requirements Project management, including methodical workpackage definition, time and budget planning, as well as regular status reporting.
  • Hands-on validation and qualification planning, active laboratory execution of electrical & optical characterization, and contributions to structured testing concepts & scalable testing infrastructure.
  • Contributing to System Concept Development, bridging high-level interdisciplinary architectures with detailed ASIC and Software functionality definitions.
  • Contributions to the definition of production processes together with suppliers, the Broadcom manufacturing team, and our worldwide contract manufacturing partners.
  • Systematically compiling and issuing product documentation, technical specifications, and application notes.
  • Actively contributing to Broadcom’s patent portfolio.
  • Master Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Information Technology with focus on optical semiconductors, sensors or optical transceivers. 5+ years of related experience in optoelectronic industrial R&D Desired proficiency in the following skills: Strong technical background in optical semiconductor design, sensor physics, processing and production.
  • High interest in Sensor System Design including Software algorithm definition, implementation, and test, with the potential to define new architectures.
  • Experience with structured project management methodologies.
  • Expertise with embedded system and/or IC-design and testing.
  • Hands-on knowledge of application development and graphical user interfaces in the field of lab testing, using script languages (e.g.
  • Phyton) and/or C++, C# to automate measurement routines.
  • Proven Laboratory experience in prototyping and electrical/optical characterization.
  • Deep Know how in the field of optical design, measurement and test setup integration.
  • Broad generalist interest in interdisciplinary work interfacing to electronics, optics, mechanical structures, and communication systems.
  • Self-contained, accurate working style and ability to integrate into teams across different functions and global locations.
  • General Requirements: English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Prepared to learn German and acquire German communication skills.
